Mole removal experts Cosmedics Skin Clinics have produced a handy ‘day by day’ guide to show patients what to expect after having shave excision mole removal.
The at-a-glance guide describes what to expect in terms of:
- the wound – how it will look and feel
- aftercare – what to do to aid healing and minimise scarring
Day by Day Guide to Mole Removal Healing
| Timeline /days | What to expect at the wound | What to do |
| 1-3 | Red, slight swollen, mild discomfort easing off | Vaseline / dressing |
| 3-10 | Red at edges, green /yellow in middle and little or no pain | Vaseline / dressing |
| 10-14 | Wound heals over | Vaseline / dressing |
| 14-28 | Fully healed and red | Massage with bio-oil or silicon gels |
| 1-3 months | Redness fading to pink | Massage with bio-oil or silicon gels. Sunblock if in the sun |
| 3-9 months | Pink area fading to skin color or slightly lighter and any lumpiness flattening out. | Sunblock if in the sun. Occasionally some brown color at the base of the wound can remain or reappear. If this is a concern please revisit us as this can easily be removed. |

Mole Removal Surgery
Cosmedics’ team of doctors offer mole surgery using a variety of techniques. Laser mole treatment is popular for smaller lesions as it is quick, pain-free and minimises scarring. For larger moles, surgery is usually the best option with shave excision or ellipse excision (with stitches).
All moles are tested as a matter of course and a full histology report gives peace of mind even when there was no need for concern.
