Mosquito Bite Advice
Stylist explores why some people seem to get bitten by mosquitoes more than others.
The feature included expert advice from Cosmedics Skin Clinics founder and Medical Director, Dr Ross Perry, who explained:
“It is not fully known why some people get bitten more than others but many believe it can be down to genetics, blood types, skin type and chemicals emitted from the body.”
Not only are some people more prone to bites than others, some also experience more of a reaction with potential symptoms including swelling, redness and itching.
Dr Perry says:
“People can react very differently to bites and often those people who tend to suffer with eczema or hay fever have more of an allergic tendency so the reactions tend to be severe and longer lasting.”
Advice for Treating Insect Bites
For those who experience annoying symptoms, Ross suggests over-the-counter treatments and self-help advice:
“Antihistamines and hydrocortisone creams are good things to help soothe and you must not pick or scratch if possible, as that will make it worse and increase the risk of infection.”
