Thread Lift
Before & After Thread Lift Results
Thread Lifts With Experienced Plastic Surgeon, London
Facial lifting & rejuvenation
At Cosmedics we use Silhouette Soft and PDO threads. They are made up of threads of natural collagen fibres that are used to elevate and reposition sagging or drooping areas of the face to achieve an invisible face lift.
They are anchored to the deeper tissues so that the lift is maintained.
These threads can achieve a more effective result for patients where facelift surgery is not preferable and just want a subtle but noticeable result.
Facelift without Surgery
Thread lifts seem like the perfect solution to many with that little lift we do in the mirror however we advise that it is only done by a plastic surgeon for the best results given its similarities to a full surgical facelift.
Treatment areas for threads include:
- Jawline (saggy jowls)
- Neck (so-called turkey neck)
- Cheeks
Trusted Surgical Expertise
The process involves a pre consultation with our surgeon in order to assess your suitability for the treatment when all the benefits and risks will be explained.
It takes about 45-60 minutes It is performed under local anaesthetic in sterile conditions. The threads are carefully placed through the skin and tailored to each person’s requirements. Immediately afterwards there is some swelling and bruising. The swelling can last for a few days and the bruising 7-10 days. There is also some slight puckering of the skin near the hairline that resolves over a few days as the skin settles into its new position.
The thread lifts last for 12-18 months and naturally dissolve with time but are also replaced with some of your own natural collagen which helps maintain the result.

Thread Lift FAQ: Questions & Answers
How long does a thread lift last?
Results can last anywhere between one to three years.
It’s important to understand that while no lifting technique can produce permanent results, facelift surgery will usually produce longer lasting results than a thread lift. The results of facelift surgery can last up to a decade, whereas a thread lift will generally last from one to three years.
How much does a thread lift cost?
The procedure can range from anywhere from £800-£2,400 depending on how many threads are needed.
Most people typically need a 2-3 per side of the face so £1,400-£1,800 is an average cost
Is a thread lift painful?
Soreness, particularly in or near the hairline or jaw line, can occur and can last up to 2 weeks and you can feel the pulling effect of the thread for a few weeks also
What aftercare is required following a thread lift?
Apply SPF30 and gently wash the treated areas on the same day but do not rub or massage the face for 2 weeks.
A stinging or “pulling” pain or discomfort is normal.
Arnica cream can be used for any bruising and cold compress for any swelling.
For 2 weeks post treatment, do not undergo any dental surgery.
Avoid facial and beauty treatments and all contact sports for the first few weeks.
What’s the difference between silhouette soft vs. PDO thread lift
Both PDO and Silhouette Soft threads are composed of 100% biocompatible, natural materials and FDA approved
PDO thread lifts get their name from the polydioxanone material that they are made of. typically dissolve in the body within six months.
Silhouette Soft, on the other hand, utilises threads composed of poly-l-lactic acid, or PLLA. PLLA threads demonstrate greater longevity than PDO threads and typically last up to twelve months before dissolving.
Both have effects that will last up to 2 years.
The choice of use for either one depends on the areas that are wanting to be treated. Both are good options. However, the result is more dependent on the positioning of the threads correctly and a proper assessment at the beginning.
What are the common areas for treatment?
The commonest sites for treatment is the jowls and upper cheek. These give the most consistent results that also compliment BOTOX® and dermal fillers.
It can also be used to elevate the eyebrow and eyelid positions if they are heavy looking as well as the neck and jawline in some patients
Who does it work on?
It is not recommended for everyone and patients need to be assessed first to determine whether they will benefit from the treatment and whether it is suitable.
Typically it is recommended for men and women over the age of 40 who have areas of natural sagging and descent of the facial skin structures that naturally occurs with age.
Expectations have to be realistic as this is still a minimally invasive procedure and in no way designed to replicate a surgical facelift. However, the aim is to give a natural well lifted result for patients where surgery is just not an option or are not quite ready for it.
Who does the treatment and where?
The treatment is only undertaken by our registered surgeons at our Harley Street Clinic, which is CQC registered for thread lifting.
How do I prepare for the procedure?
Do not take any aspirin or ibuprofen for 1 week prior to the procedure and have no big social events for at least 2-3 weeks afterwards.
We would advise booking 1-2 days off work following the procedure and if you are prone to bruising take arnica tablets for a week beforehand.
How long does a thread lift take?
The procedure takes around 30-45 minutes.
It is pain-free as anaesthetic cream and injections are done to make the procedure very comfortable.
What side effects might I experience?
The procedure is FDA approved and is very safe. However, it is minimally invasive and as such carries certain side effects and risks:
Common – Swelling, bruising, discomfort, pain or a feeling of pulling or tightness.
Common – Short term dimpling of the skin.
Rare – Scarring, bleeding, infection, numbness (usually temporary if at all).
What are the benefits of thread lift treatment
Thread lift treatment can treat the following skin concerns and have a range of benefits:
- Hollow cheeks – loss of volume from our cheeks is very ageing but a thread lift can trigger collagen production which fills the hollow.
- Jowls – as we age and gravity takes its toll, jowls can form around the jawline and can create the effect of excess skin.
- Sagging cheeks – the mild to moderate sagging of cheeks is caused by the ageing process but can be rectified by Thread lift treatment.
- Deep wrinkles – folds and lines around the nose and chin are caused by fat pads in our face slipping due to age.

Key Facts – Thread Lifting At Cosmedics
Thread lifting can achieve natural, long-lasting and immediately visible results whilst avoiding an invasive surgical procedure. As well as the instantaneous lifting appearance from the procedure, you will also enjoy longer-term rejuvenating effects as the threads are broken down by the body which stimulates the of production of collagen.
The procedure results in a natural and rejuvenated look, giving a more fresh and youthful appearance which is effective for up to two years and can easily be repeated as and when required or combined with other lifting and rejuvenating procedures.
At Cosmedics we offer this for patients:
- Where certain areas cannot be lifted without surgery
- For patients seeking the next step after fillers but who don’t want surgery
The treatment is carried out using local anaesthetic— and under sterile conditions where the threads are inserted at specific vectors and locations which will be marked pre-procedure by your surgeon to achieve the desired effect.
Recovery is quick – minor swelling or bruising – which will resolve within a few days.
