Over Half Acne Patients Suffer Verbal Abuse
British Skin Foundation Survey
A UK survey of acne sufferers has found that over half of acne sufferers (56.78%) have experienced verbal abuse due to their skin condition. What’s more, this abuse was not from strangers, but from friends, family and other acquaintances.
Over 40% of acne sufferers said they had been bullied due to their condition and nearly 40% said they had been verbally abused by another member of the public.
These statistics were based on a survey of over 2,000 acne sufferers carried out by the British Skin Foundation in 2015.
The results underline the deep unhappiness and social exclusion that the condition can cause and the need for treatment.
One of the people surveyed commented:
“Acne is common today, but for many people who have this, they will experience this type of discrimination hatred in public, education, workplace etc.
“Awareness is a very big problem at the moment.”

Laser Acne Treatment
Modern technology offers a highly effective new solution for acne with lasting results.
One of the key benefits is that it is an alternative to harsh, abrasive topical creams and washes, which can irritate the skin. It is also considered safer and healthier than medication such as antibiotics, as the risk of side effects is much lower.
There are now professional skin treatments which can be used to improve acne and better manage the risk of long term acne scarring. These should be controlled by a suitably qualified and experienced doctor who has special interest in this area of skin problems.
Options could include:
- Dermaroller Microneedling
- TIXEL® thermal fractional rejuvenation
- iPixel YAG Laser Fractional Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing
- Laser Pigmentation Therapy
- Laser Redness/Rosacea Treatment
- Laser IPL Treatment
