I News reviewed the launch of Poundland’s new “#6” skincare range with input from skin experts including Cosmedics Skin Clinics founder, Dr Ross Perry. The “#6” range includes attractive ingredients such as collagen, emulating higher priced items at a very competitive £1 price point.

The range of 6 key items includes micellar cleansing water, anti-ageing day and night cream, collagen wrinkle ‘filler’ (not injectable), eye cream and serum. All are priced at £1, making the range very competitive compared to other rival brands on the high street.

Poundland’s Head of Glamour, Holly Mobley, said:

“Everyone wants to look good for less, and we spent a long time ironing out the wrinkles to develop a fantastic skincare range to fit all budgets.

“We set out to challenge expectations, we want customers to feel like they are buying a bit of luxury without breaking the bank and are confident #6 hits the mark for beauty addicts and skincare novices alike.”

Expert Doctor Opinion from Dr Ross Perry

Founder and owner of Cosmedics Skin Clinics, Dr Ross Perry, was invited to give his professional advice on the range. He explained that price was not necessarily an indicator of effectiveness, saying:

“Some premium products can include hefty amount of cost for advertising and packaging and some fairly plain products can actually be quite effective as a simple moisturiser.

“With regard to the Poundland range, the products do seem to include some popular ingredients such as vitamins, but in reality they may be included in very small amounts and may therefore not be of any particular added benefit beyond any other basic skincare products without them.

“I would not expect radical anti-ageing results, as those tend to require much more intensive products. However, if you’re after a simple and cost-effective skincare range, at this price, it may be worth a shot.”

Skincare Products Advice

Dr Perry also gave some further advice, which was not included in the article:

“As with all skincare products, if you don’t get on with it, don’t persevere – especially if you have sensitive skin and find the products irritating – just stop use and consider a milder alternative. And if you’re looking for more intensive results, you will probably need to look to something more ‘cosmeceutical’ in nature.”

Cosmeceutical Skincare

Cosmeceutical skincare contains higher levels of active ingredients and may require a prescription. This is an option for intensive treatment and can deliver noticeable results even for those with difficult skin conditions, such as rosacea or acne. Cosmedics offer the ZO Skin Health range
