Allergan Receives ‘Positive Opinion’
Skin Treatment
Manufacturer of BELKYRA® chin fat-busting injections, Allergan, is one step closer to releasing the product in the UK after receiving ‘positive opinion’ from the Swedish Medical Products Agency (MPA).
BELKYRA is better known as KYBELLA – its USA trademark. The injectable solution based on deoxycholic acid is designed to treat ‘submental fullness’, which is also known as double chin or chin fat.
Data from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery in 2015 showed that 67% of patients said that they were concerned or bothered about their chin/neck area, making the most troublesome condition.
BELKYRA treatment will be prescription only (as is the case with BOTOX anti-ageing injections) and will be the first prescription medicine to be licensed in Europe for the treatment of a double-chin.

Allergan will continue to work with other countries to secure national marketing authorisations for using the treatment for patients with submental fullness.
UK Interest in BELKYRA/Kybella
Since the announcement of the products’ launch in the UK, Cosmedics Skin Clinics has built up an extensive waiting list of patients who want the treatment.
