Doctor Solutions for Resistant Warts
Skin Expert Dr Ross Perry
As seen in The Express
The Express featured Dr Ross Perry Cosmedics Skin Clinics in its article about how to get rid of difficult warts on the hands in a feature:
“‘Resistant’ warts on fingers and palms – skin doctor provides solutions to get rid of it”
Warts are caused by the HPV virus (human papilloma wart virus) and cause bumpy and unsightly growths of skin. They can be very stubborn and resistant to treatment and over-the-counter treatments are often not strong enough to get rid of them.
Dr Ross Perry told The Express:
“Treating warts can be a very long and frustrating experience [for the patient],
“Over-the-counter remedies such as solutions and home-freezing sprays may appear a cheap alternative, but they are often ineffective.”
He continued:
“If [the treatments] don’t work, the problem is likely to get worse.
“If you have attempted to treat your warts, but they continue to come back, the treatment has failed to kill the virus.”
Wart treatments that work
Doctor-led treatments offer a more intensive treatment option for patients struggling to get rid of warts.
Laser wart removal
Dr Ross Perry explains:
“For those who’ve failed elsewhere, a laser is an excellent option for removing warts.
“The laser penetrates the skin to destroy the papillomavirus beneath the skin’s surface, so that the wart is finally gone.”
Doctors use local anaesthetic to ensure the treatment is not painful. Dr Perry says:
“The treatment itself is surprisingly comfortable.”
“After treatment, the skin will blister for a few days then go red. Wounds generally healed in under a week.”
Cryotherapy (wart freezing)
Dr Ross Perry describes the freezing treatment as
“the destruction of skin tissue”
Liquid nitrogen is used to apply intense cold to the area. These freezes the skin cells until they die.
“The duration and number of treatment cycles depend on the skin type and the nature of the problem.
“There is a slight burning sensation during the procedure, but this stops once the treatment has ended.
“It is quite usual for the skin to blister afterwards for a few days then go red. Most of the wounds would have healed in under a week.”
Wart removal surgery
In severe cases, a minor surgical procedure can be carried out which will
“cut the wart off with an electric needle or cryosurgery”
The Express concludes:
“Whatever decision you decide to make, rest assured that there are removal methods out there that actually work”
